Voice Thread Reflection
The use of the VT was at first intimidating. I was scared about uploading my videos and worksheets. I was not sure how to do it and my own fears held me back, but I was able to get over this by looking at the learning videos and then trying to do the things myself. Once I found out how to manipulate the web page, it was a little easier.
I uploaded the video, the worksheet, and the world map and then wrote in the introductory statement. Because the students are observing the video on their own computer stations, they will be able to make their own comments without fear of their teammates ridiculing them. Their teammates will also be able to analyze each other’s statements as they make their own.
Using the VT is an excellent way to incorporate social learning in the classroom. I believe that the students are creating artifacts and collaborating as they converse with their teammates. By using the VT, the teacher is just an observer not the one breaking things down into component parts and directing learning. Using the voice thread provides for the students a collaborative tool with multimedia slide shows that work similar to a virtual field trip but the students are able to see documents and videos. They are able navigate pages and leave comments in 5 ways I think that that is neat, students will get a kick out of doing that. They are also able to doodle while commenting and use multiple identities.
I love this tool, and will be using this as soon as I find out whether or not the site can be accessed from the school computer. Love the possibilities.
